Newton Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Steve Bader, our cosmetic dentist in Newton has created hundreds of beautiful, natural smiles with porcelain veneers.
Porcelain is a beautiful restorative material that mimics the natural look and function of your teeth. Veneers make it possible to correct a variety of color and shape problems, including:
- Reducing or eliminating spaces or gaps between the teeth (diastemas)
- Repairing broken or chipped teeth
- Whitening dark teeth, yellow teeth, permanently stained teeth, or otherwise discolored teeth
- Correcting misshapen or crooked teeth
- Closing small holes or pits in teeth
- Improving the appearance of teeth that are too small, too big, or uneven
What are the Steps in Placing Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are very thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the front of the teeth to give you a bright, white, straight, and attractive smile. They are approximately 0.5 mm thick and when they are bonded in place, it’s difficult to tell that they are not part of the teeth. If the tooth is shaved ever-so-slightly, the fit will be perfectly seamless. Shown in the image to the right, you can see how thin a veneer actually is, approximately the thickness of a fingernail. This image also demonstrates how very little preparation on each tooth is typically required.
Dr. Bader wants you to absolutely love your new smile and that is why he offers a beautiful smile guarantee. To begin, Dr. Bader will discuss with you your preferences in smile design. From that discussion, he will create your new smile design digitally, using computer simulation. If you are happy with the smile design, he will then create a wax mock-up of your case from the computer-generated models of your teeth. If you are satisfied with the wax mock-up, a set of provisionals will be created from that wax model. You will actually wear these provisionals so that you can see how you look with your new smile. If you need any changes, those will be made. It won’t ever be sent to the ceramist for the porcelain work until you approve the look, smile design, and color of the provisionals. This is his beautiful smile guarantee. And that is why, in thirty years, he has never had a patient unhappy with their smile makeover.
Then he will prepare your teeth and take an impression so the ceramist can create the veneers.
During your next appointment, Dr. Bader will remove the provisionals and try on the new porcelain veneers to confirm that they’re the correct shape, size, and color. He will then permanently bond them to your teeth with an etching solution, a bonding resin, and a special light. The end result: a stunning new smile that you will be proud to show off.
If you have any questions about porcelain veneers or if you would like to find out if you are a candidate, Dr. Bader would be happy to meet with you during a 10-minute complimentary consultation. Then you can decide if you are interested in having him create a new smile for you.
